Congregation Kol Shalom seeks an energetic and outgoing religious school and youth activities coordinator to manage the educational programs of our congregation and create new ways to engage our youth and families. The Coordinator will work in partnership with our highly supportive religious school chairperson (active interim director), volunteers, and Rabbi. The Coordinator will have the support of a part time administrator. The Coordinator will also teach in our religious school.
CKS is a small (100 members with currently 20 children in religious school) Reform congregation on Bainbridge Island, Washington. We are a supportive and participatory Jewish community. https://www.kolshalom.net/

Applicant qualifications:

  1. Experience in formal and informal reform Jewish education settings.
  2. Program planning and implementation experience
  3. Song leading a plus
    This is a part-time position. (approx. 10-15 hours per week)
    The Religious school is in the process of rebuilding our in-person Jewish learning experience for our community in the (hopefully near) post-Covid future.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Relationships:
Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with the parent community and community at large.
Development and oversight of Jewish activities within the school curriculum that include parental/family involvement.
Attend all scheduled Religious School Holiday Activities.
Reinvigorate our madrichim and informal youth programming.
Develop programs to retain and engage post bnei mitzvah students in the community.
School Oversight:
Manage the logistics of running our Religious School and Hebrew School program.
Implement ShalomLearning curriculum for Religious School and Hebrew School.
Coordinate small group distance learning Hebrew instruction.
Hire and manage a small group of teachers including managing a small group of Hebrew tutors.
Communicate with Congregation Kol Shalom community parents.
Teach in person Religious School Classes following the established school calendar and participate in pre-class T’fillah.
Manage the religious school budget and calendar with support from Administrator and Religious School Committee Chairperson.
Establish the annual school calendar support from Administrator and Religious School Committee Chairperson.
Attend monthly religious school committee meetings, and Board of Directors meetings as requested.
Locate and use resources to help students with learning/behavioral challenges with support from Religious School Committee Chairperson.
Jewish rituals and celebrations:
Work in conjunction with the Rabbi to plan curriculum and programming to prepare students for B’nei Mitzvah.
Design and implement creative holiday and shabbat family programming with Rabbi and lay leaders.
